📋 Step-by-Step Guide (5 Steps)
Identify Tag Type and Isolate Fabric
Inspect the security tag to determine if it has ink vials (glass/plastic cylinders filled with dye) or is a standard magnetic-clutch tag with a raised plastic dome. Wrap a plastic bag around the tag body and slip a cardboard guard between the tag base and the garment fabric. This protects the cloth from tool scratches and prevents dye contamination.

- • Prying directly against the bare fabric, tearing the garment threads.
Method A: Apply Neodymium Magnet to the Dome
Place the strong neodymium magnet directly onto the raised cylindrical dome on the back of the tag. Wiggle the pin base gently while keeping the magnet pressed against the top of the dome. The magnet retracts the internal ball bearings, unlocking the center retaining pin.

- • Using a weak refrigerator magnet that lacks the pull force to retract locking ball bearings.
Method B: Pry Open the Plastic Dome Housing
If magnetic release fails, use diagonal cutters to carefully score and clip the raised apex of the plastic dome away from the fabric. Use a small flathead screwdriver to lever off the plastic cap covering the internal chamber. Keep the tool tips pointed away from your hands and the garment at all times.

- • Twisting violently, which can bend the central pin and lock it permanently in place.
Extract Internal Spring and Ball Bearings
Once the plastic top is breached, use the flathead screwdriver tip or tweezers to lift out the small metal spring and the retaining ring. Shake out the three tiny steel ball bearings contained inside the cone chamber. Once the balls fall out, the clutch mechanism is completely neutralized.

Separate Pin and Inspect Fabric
