โš ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)

1

Elevate and Chill the Hand

Hold the affected hand raised above heart level for 3 to 5 minutes. Apply an ice pack wrapped in a thin towel around the finger to constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling before attempting mechanical removal.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Hand positioned clearly above shoulder height
  • โ€ข Cold pack resting over the swollen knuckle
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Dangling the hand downward while waiting, which increases swelling
  • โ€ข Applying bare ice directly to skin causing cold burns
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Do not ice for more than 5 minutes continuously to prevent tissue damage.
2

Lubricate the Ring and Knuckle

Apply a generous coat of liquid dish soap or petroleum jelly around the ring, under the visible edges, and all the way over the main knuckle toward the fingertip. Gently twist the ring back and forth once or twice to spread the lubricant beneath the band.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Glossy, visible layer of soap or jelly coating the skin from the palm base past the knuckle
  • โ€ข Ring freely rotating even if it cannot slide forward
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Using too little lubricant, leaving dry skin friction zones
  • โ€ข Yanking the ring forcefully against the dry knuckle instead of twisting
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Avoid pulling hard on the ring if it resists; forceful pulling increases swelling and trauma.
3

Thread Floss Underneath the Ring Band

Cut a 24-inch length of waxed dental floss. Use the blunt end of a folded paperclip to carefully slide about 4 inches of the floss under the ring from the fingertip side down toward the palm.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข A 3 to 4-inch floss tail emerging from the palm side of the ring
  • โ€ข The long remaining strand extending freely toward the fingertip
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Using a sharp safety pin that pokes or scratches the swollen skin
  • โ€ข Leaving too short of a tail on the palm side to grip later
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Never use sharp sewing needles to thread the floss beneath compressed skin.
4

Wrap the Finger Tightly Past the Knuckle

Take the long end of the floss and wrap it tightly around the finger in smooth, side-by-side coils starting directly adjacent to the ring. Continue wrapping snugly over the widest part of the knuckle until you are past the swollen joint.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Uniform, tight spiral of floss compressing the swollen knuckle evenly
  • โ€ข No gaps of bulged skin poking out between floss loops
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Leaving wide spaces between coils where swollen flesh can bulge out
  • โ€ข Wrapping too loosely, which fails to compress the tissue diameter
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Work quickly once wrapped; do not leave tightly compressed floss on the finger for more than 2 minutes.
5

Unwind the Tail to Walk the Ring Off

Grasp the short tail on the palm side of the ring and begin unwinding it outward toward the fingertip. As the floss unwraps, it will push the bottom edge of the ring smoothly over the compressed knuckle.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Ring advancing forward across the compressed coils as each loop unwinds
  • โ€ข Ring clearing the widest part of the knuckle smoothly
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Pulling the floss straight out instead of peeling it around the finger circumference
  • โ€ข Letting go of the short tail so the wrap tangles
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: If the ring stops moving and the finger is turning dark, immediately cut all floss away and seek medical assistance.
6

Remove Floss and Inspect Skin

Slide the ring completely off the finger once past the knuckle. Discard the floss and gently wash away residual soap or jelly with cool water, checking the skin for cuts or lingering discoloration.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Ring completely off the hand
  • โ€ข Finger clean and normal flesh tone returning within 30 seconds
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Leaving residue on irritated skin
  • โ€ข Trying to force the ring back on to test fit immediately
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Clean any minor abrasions with mild soap and water and pat dry.
