Inspect the Slider and Teeth
Examine the zipper teeth along both tracks to confirm none are missing, cracked, or severely bent. Check the zipper slider's side channels with needle-nose pliers; if the metal gap is widened or uneven, gently squeeze the mouth of the slider slightly closed so it grips teeth evenly. Slide the attached pull all the way down to the bottom stop of its remaining track.

Make a Micro-Incision in the Loose Tape
Locate the detached track directly parallel to the top of the resting slider. Use precision scissors to cut a small horizontal slit (about 2 mm wide) in the fabric tape between two teeth near the base. Do not cut through the teeth themselves or sever the entire width of the outer tape margin.

Thread the Loose Track into the Slider
Angle the loose track teeth and feed the notched section into the empty channel of the slider. Push the teeth upward into the slider body until they align with the opposite track's teeth inside the mechanism. The notch allows the teeth to slip into the guide channel without needing access from the very bottom stop.

Test the Zip Action
Grasp both bottom ends of the fabric tape firmly between your fingers to provide downward tension. Gently pull the zipper slider upward 2 to 3 inches past the cut notch. Verify that the left and right teeth mesh together completely without popping open behind the slider.

Sew a New Bottom Stop
