Inspect and Orient the Slider and Tracks
Examine both sides of the pencil bag zipper tape to ensure teeth are clean and undamaged. Identify the wide end (entry) and narrow end (exit) of the zipper slider. Orient the slider with the rounded wide end facing forward toward the bag's open zipper tracks.

Make a Tiny Insertion Snip in One Track
Measure approximately 5 to 10 millimeters from the bottom edge of one zipper track. Use sharp scissors to make a tiny horizontal cut between two teeth on the fabric tape, stopping right before the teeth line. Remove 1-2 teeth at the cut if necessary to create a clean entry notch.

- • Opposing zipper track remains completely intact and uncut.
- • Cutting completely through the zipper tape, severing the track entirely.

Feed Tracks into the Zipper Slider
Feed the uncut track entirely into one side of the slider's wide end until it catches. Then, slide the notched track into the other side of the slider just below the cut point. Hold both fabric tails behind the slider with one hand and firmly push the slider upward with the other.

- • Feeding the tracks at uneven heights, causing severe fabric bunching.

Adjust Slider Tension with Pliers
If the teeth split open behind the slider as you pull it, the slider body is splayed. Place needle-nose pliers gently over the left and right rear casing plates of the slider. Squeeze lightly to press the top and bottom plates closer together, testing the closure after each small adjustment.

Sew a Permanent End Stop
Thread a sewing needle with doubled heavy-duty thread and knot the end. Stitch 8 to 10 tight whip-stitches directly over both zipper tracks just above your cut notch to create a thick thread bridge. Tie off securely inside the pouch and snip excess thread.
