โš ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step Guide (7 Steps)

1

Unseat the Tire Bead

Deflate the tire completely by depressing the valve core. Insert the spoon end of a tire lever under one tire bead, hook the other end to a spoke, and slide a second lever around the rim circumference to pop one side of the tire off.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข One full bead of the tire hangs outside the metal rim wall while the other bead remains seated.
  • โ€ข The valve stem is loosely visible inside the open rim channel.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Catching the inner tube with the tire lever tip and pinching it
  • โ€ข Trying to pry both beads off at the same time
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Do not use metal screwdrivers to pry tires; they slice tubes and gouge rim beds.
2

Extract Tube and Inspect Tire Casing

Pull the inner tube out from the tire, keeping note of its orientation relative to the valve hole. Carefully run a rag around the inside cavity of the tire casing to catch any sharp thorns, glass shards, or wires embedded in the rubber.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข The inner tube is completely separated from the wheel.
  • โ€ข The entire inside circumference of the tire casing has been wiped and inspected.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Scanning with bare fingers and getting punctured by hidden wire
  • โ€ข Skipping casing inspection, causing an instant flat upon reinstallation
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Use a folded cloth to sweep the tire interior rather than bare skin to protect against razor-sharp metal debris.
3

Locate and Mark the Puncture

Inflate the removed tube with several pumps until it holds its round shape. Submerge sections in a water basin or slowly rotate it near your ear until bubbles or a hissing hiss pinpoints the leak, then dry and mark the hole with an 'X'.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Streams of bubbles emerging continuously from a specific point under water.
  • โ€ข A clear chalk or pen mark centered over the tiny puncture hole on the dried rubber.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Marking directly on the wet tube so the ink washes away
  • โ€ข Stopping after finding one hole when a snake-bite pinch flat often has two
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Do not over-expand the unconstrained tube beyond 1.5 times its resting diameter while testing.
4

Abrade the Rubber Surface

Deflate the tube completely. Use fine sandpaper or the metal scuffer to aggressively rough up an area slightly larger than your patch, removing the slick mold release agent and rubber seams until the surface is matte gray.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข A dull, scratch-textured circular area roughly 3 cm across surrounding the chalk mark.
  • โ€ข Raised manufacturing seams ground completely flat within the patch boundary.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Buffing an area smaller than the patch footprint
  • โ€ข Leaving the slick factory glaze intact so vulcanization fails
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Avoid sanding too deeply into thin lightweight tubes to prevent creating new weak spots.
5

Apply Cement and Allow to Tack Dry

Spread a thin, even coat of vulcanizing rubber cement over the entire scuffed area. Allow the solvent to evaporate undisturbed for 2 to 3 minutes until the liquid sheen disappears and the surface turns completely dull and tacky.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข A thin, uniform film of glue covering the sanded perimeter.
  • โ€ข The glue surface transforms from wet and shiny to completely matte and dry to the eye.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Applying the patch while the glue is still wet and glossy
  • โ€ข Applying a thick puddle of glue that traps wet solvent underneath
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Work in a ventilated space and avoid inhaling adhesive fumes directly.
6

Apply Patch and Apply Pressure

Peel the foil backing from the patch without touching the orange vulcanizing layer. Center the patch over the puncture mark, press it down firmly with your thumbs, and roll a hard tool or tire lever edge over it from center to edges for 60 seconds.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข The patch edges are fully flush with the tube with zero lifting or air pockets.
  • โ€ข Clear cellophane backing (if present) splits or peels away cleanly without lifting the rubber borders.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Touching the sticky orange side of the patch with greasy fingers
  • โ€ข Leaving loose, lifted edges around the perimeter of the patch
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Ensure no dirt or grit gets trapped under the patch during installation.
7

Reinstall Tube, Seat Tire, and Inflate

Add just enough air to give the tube round shape, insert the valve through the rim hole, tuck the tube inside the tire, and push the tire bead back over the rim using only your palms. Check both sides to confirm no tube is caught under the bead, then inflate to rated PSI.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Both tire beads sit symmetrically inside the rim flange along the full circumference.
  • โ€ข Valve stem points straight toward the hub without leaning.
  • โ€ข Tire sidewall indicator line is consistently equidistant from the rim edge.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Using tire levers to force the final bead on, pinching the newly repaired tube
  • โ€ข Inflating before verifying the tube isn't trapped under the bead
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Always adhere to the MIN/MAX tire pressure range embossed directly on your tire sidewall.
